Political Tidbits
(Editor’s note: For our new readers Political Tidbits is done periodically. Occasionally there maybe one with a link for more detail. BTW, any tips appreciated. Send to [email protected].)
These are scary times…and it’s the 13th on a Friday…readers still deserve a few “Tidbits”…even if its not Halloween.
Speaking…of scary…if you’re a MAGA diehard…are you still cheering…your leader who promised no more WARS…now he is engaged in one…which could lead to…involving more counties…& become World War III.
Congress facing November 2026 elections…Republicans are now questioning why they have let Trump silence them…may be time to turn on the AI press release writing machine…to tell all they have accomplished…that should not take long.
Winter is still in full swing…in parts of the country…does ICE still stand for misery…or was that only in Minnesota?
Many Floridians are looking forward to the 2026 election…they will soon be rid of Ron DeSantis as Governor…looks like his wife will not run the race…likely she is house hunting…that raises a question…why did Trump not put him in the cabinet as Noem’s replacement?
Election officials across the country…are faced with pressure from Trump’s Department of Justice…he wants voters’ personal information…WV Secretary of State Warner…stood up to Trump…saying…he was entrusted with West Virginians’ personal information…go away…”turnover is just not going to happen”.
Rumors have it…Kristi Noem is looking for a retirement home…in Minnesota…really!
Republicans in the House of Representatives after taking control in 2025 have accomplished little making it’s hard to make a case for re-election. Members who realize what they do in their district really matters are in better shape to be re-elected.
Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidates are doing better than expected…a University of North Florida poll…uncovered that 42% of the Floridians want David Jolly and 36% Jerry Demings…GOP frontrunner Byron Donalds is 6% ahead of Jolly and 7% over Demings.
It’s been noted in North Carolina…in a departure from past state officials with election oversight did not openly support candidates…that is not the case this year.
Be careful listening to what Trump promises…he stated he could settle the Ukraine/Russian war on day one once in office…it’s been 417 days. Meanwhile…he started another War…while hosting parties $$$…at Mar-A-Lago.
West Virginia Democrats…see the opportunity to turnover the U. S. Senate to Democrats…they are playing a role working to return former Senator Sherrod Brown to the Senate…they are holding a fundraiser for Brown March 25th.
Potential 2028 presidential candidates…in case you missed what Gallup recently found. Gallup learned in 2025 a gloom has fallen over the country. From now only 59% have given a high rating on how good their life will be in five years. Lowest annual measure in almost 20 years that Gallup has asked that question.
Let’s close out this session of Political Tidbits…reminding both Democrats and Republicans…it’s not what you say…it’s what you do.

DeSantis’ Future
Speculation is starting regarding Governor Ron DeSantis’ political future. He has three years left as Governor. In September when his presidential campaign started showing signs of stress, I posted a blog suggesting he consider a run for the U. S. Senate. The...
2 Crutches
Florida’s hard right Governor Ron DeSantis was already a “lame duck.” He returned from a failed presidential campaign “as a duck with two crutches”. He retreated to the Governor’s Mansion. Others suspended their campaigns facing supporters, friends and the media. ...

Iowa is now out of the way. Obviously, the campaign for president is getting all the attention. But there are other potentially vital campaigns just starting. They may play a significant role in who is the next president. Those are races for members of the U. S....
My Take
Ron DeSantis confirmed last night it’s still all about him. In his Iowa post-election speech, he never once thanked Iowans for their votes & hospitality. Throughout his campaign he made a big deal of visiting all 99 counties. MANY PEOPLE AND BUSINESES OPENED...
What Is a Caucus?
Several blog readers have inquired about the Iowa Caucus. Wondering how it works. While reading Reuters this morning I came across an article that answers the question. For those interested here is a link to click.
“not going away”
Governor Chris Christie said he was “not going away” while suspending his presidential campaign. Fantastic news since he is the person who really knowns Donald Trump. He left no doubt he is committed to preventing Trumps return to the oval office. It didn’t take long...

Not all races are political, there is horse racing. Many readers of this blog including my wife & I have been involved with horse racing over the years. She claims to have cut her teeth “on the rail” at Charles Town! Being native West Virginians a piece in...
Stable vs Chaos
Kristen Soltis Anderson, a Republican pollster and moderator of the New York Times Opinion focus group series, took a usual look at the 2016 presidential race vs the 2024 one in progress. Below are excerpts from Ms. Anderson piece “How Trump is Running Differently...
A Solution
Since posting Robert Kagan opinion piece about a Trump dictatorship he has written a second. Some of his readers were unhappy he did not offer a solution. Below are excerpts from his response. “Can a Trump dictatorship still be prevented? Yes. It does not require a...
Apology
Posted on this blog earlier was an article from The Washington Post. I failed to point out those without a subscription to The Post would be required to enter their email address to read the entire piece. Our apologies
Stop Pretending
Since reading an opinion piece last month “A Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending.” The points made by the author are worth considering and worth my time to read. After much thought and a couple re-reads, I decided to post on...

Democracy
Democracy is at stake in the 2024 election at all levels. One of the greatest threats is the loss of local newspapers. As a native West Virginian and advocate for rural America my immediate concern is how rural areas are being impacted. A report “The State of Local...
Where Are You Going?
MAGA is the Republican Party. The remnants sit on Capitol Hill masquerading as the Republican National Committee in a building dedicated by President Nixon in 1971. The building has not been abandoned. However, Republicans are leaving the party. The party structure...

Politically Risky
Tonight, our country finds itself with a Congress that cannot function. The House Republican Caucus has been taken hostage by former President Trump. The duly elected Republican Members of the House of Representatives are at each other throats. All the while America...

Maybe a better headline would be our breaking our system of government. Many readers of PHILLIPSBILLBOARD are likely interested in more details about the Speakers “mess” than TV news can cover. Therefore, we are posting an update from Politico just issued. Read the...
Be Aware
There is a direct connection between the broken Republican conference in the U. S. House of Representatives and the 12th Amendment to the Constitution. The warfare taking place there will likely cost the Republicans seats in the election. As you will see in reading...
Turn The Lights On
Republicans cannot find a way to turn on the lights as the U. S. House of Representatives chamber sits dark and silent. Let’s really light up the House and form a “congressional coalition government.” Tonight, it is obvious the fight in the broken GOP conference...
Good Olde Days
Watching this week’s collapse of the U. S. House of Representatives was devastating. It started me thinking about how it was 48 years ago when I worked there. How it was and what brought on today’s environment. Politics, like everything else, is built on...
