Will They or Won’t They?

Will They or Won’t They?

The Republican led Congress has accomplished little over the last two years.  They have blindly followed President Trump’s orders. As a result, they are close to becoming the second “Do Nothing Congress” which President Harry Truman used to win the 1948 election.

All signs point to Republicans losing control of the House side of Congress and things are not looking good for the GOP Senators up for re-election in November.

This week to make matters worse the Trump administration created a $1.8 billion fund known as the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” to pay people who claim they were mistreatmented by the federal government. It includes immunity from tax penalties for Trump, his sons Eric and Donald, Jr. as well as The Trump Organization.

The fund is to be overseen by five commissioners.  Reporting indicates that four commissioners are appointed by the attorney general and removable by Trump, which gives the administration substantial influence over how the fund operates.  Anyone who has even remotely observed how Trump operates knows he will make all the decisions…even on who will be given your taxpayer money from the $1.8 billion.

As frightened as these blind Republicans are of President Trump…particularly after he recently worked to defeat a few of their colleagues, it’s unlikely, they will use the tools available to them to stop or unwind the $1.8 billion slush fund.

If these so-called representatives of the people want to improve their standing with the voters, they should stand up and pass legislation to block or restrict the funds.  Or use the appropriations process to refuse the funding.

This is an opportunity for Congress to regain the power of the purse which they gave away to the Trump overlords.  This could be an important first step to show voters they understand their Constitutional obligation.

Based on news coverage this whole thing stinks.  Let’s see if Republicans who presently control Congress are willing to put the American taxpayers first before the money grabbing Trump team.

If so, they might stand a chance of getting re-elected.  However, that said it’s going to require other steps.  They could start by defeating Trump’s SAVE America Act that makes voting difficult for millions of eligible citizens.

Don’t look for them to take on the fight for their constituents and their country.  They are afraid…of what?
