West Virginians who elected Governor Jim Justice to represent them in the United States Senate should be upset. Today he announced plans to stay as Governor until Governor-elect Patrick Morrisey takes office in mid-January.
There are two messages he is sending. Most importantly he does not take seriously or understand the importance of seniority in the Senate. Seniority plays an important role in your standing to grow iinfluence to accomplish an agenda for your state. On January 3rd Senators-elect take the oath of office. Secondly, it says he does not plan to “hang around” long in as a Senator in Washington.
Most new Senator’s get an office in the basement of the Senate office building. Anxious to get to work for their constituents they use every means to move out of the basement into a prestige office suite. Maybe Justice does not care…but “Baby Dog” his bulldog mascot might.
