Tax Dollars at Work

May 19, 2025

At this moment in time this is what’s going on in the House side of Congress. They are playing with our tax dollars, cutting spending for programs that take care of less fortunate Americans and trying to fulfill Trump’s campaign tax promises.

Funding legislation starts in the Republican controlled House.  We have seen what a mess they have created since taking control.  Recall how long it took to elect a Speaker of the House!  Now they must enact a budget to deliver Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”.

The issues involved would fill three pages.  Most important is taking Medicaid from millions of Americans. GOP “hardliners” want to reduce federal spending, and President Trump wants to give tax breaks to his rich friends.  It’s about taking from the needy and giving to the rich.

Friday the House Budget Committee failed to move a budget bill, when GOP “hardliners” voted against it wanting more federal spending cuts.  Late Sunday night on a party line vote…with four “hardliners” voting present the bill will now move to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Trump’s rich friends and their corporations will benefit upon passage.  Cutting Medicaid is one way to pay for Trump’s friends tax benefit.

Worth noting Medicaid cuts would not take place until 2029 allowing Republicans to avoid voter outrage in the 2026 midterms and 2028 elections.  A budget deficit being created by Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” doesn’t seem to be a concern.  BTW, what else might be hiding in the 1,100 pages?

This is far from over and House Budget leadership said negotiations will continue on the 1,100-page bill.  Republican “hardliners” had commitments made to them by their colleagues put in writing.  Looks like a handshake does not mean much among House Republicans.

This legislation has a way to go…so let your Members of Congress know where you stand on the Medicaid healthcare issue. You might remind them it’s only 532 days until the 2026 midterm elections.
