Joe Biden is the best political strategist in modern times.
With questions over the last year about his age and health President Biden projected a determination to stay in the 2024 campaign. This despite knowing within himself the time may come when that was no longer possible.
After the June 27th debate pressure mounted on him to withdraw. Every known political leader, Members of Congress, party officials, national commentators and newspapers across the country called for Biden to leave the race. These same experts offered advice on how this should be done. Of course, each had a concept for the Democratic Party to select a successor nominee. President Biden did not give one inch and continued down the campaign road.
When he contacted COVID he hunkered down at his Rehoboth Beach home. In the quiet of this environment his political strategist instincts kick in. Were he to leave the race, how would it be done? When should it occur? What would be the impact on his party? How would a nominee be selected? And of course, he thought about his Vice President Kamala Harris.
On a quite Sunday morning (July 21st) President Biden with one letter he let the world know he would no longer run. He did not tell the political world his strategy to address the questions that had troubled him should he leave the race.
Timing is everything in politics and the next day the Biden strategy began to roll out. Most important he endorsed Vice President Harris for the nomination. A plan to move the Biden-Harris operation over to Harris, a beat was not missed. Because of Biden’s strategy a campaign never seen in our nation’s history is going full force.
When President Biden addresses the Democratic National Convention on Monday evening…America will be looking at the best political strategist in modern times.
