Florida’s Musical Chairs
Could the resignation or potential firing of U. S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have an impact in Florida? It’s possible. News reports say the White House is looking for a replacement.
One will recall Governor DeSantis’ name was tossed about for Secretary of Defense back in January. He joined the U. S. Navy in 2004 and was promoted lieutenant before serving as legal advisor to SEAL Team One. When in Congress he served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Term-limited Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis needs a place to land once he completes his term. It appears he is still searching for a path to put First Lady Casey in the Office of Governor in 2027, but that path gets narrower each day.
A contest between Trump & DeSantis’ candidates for Florida’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) was avoided when Trump anointed Florida State Senator Joe Gruters as Republican National Chairman. Sen. Gruters who had Trump’s endorsement had announced months ago for Chief Financial Officer.
DeSantis had just appointed Blaise Ingoglia to the vacant position as Chief Financial Officer in July. Will these changes avoid Trump endorsing another CFO candidate…we shall see!
Governor DeSantis still needs to name a lieutenant governor to a position that has been vacant for some time. In politics there is nothing more important than the race for Governor. If DeSantis were to appoint a lieutenant governor before potentially being recruited by Trump as Secretary of Defense…what happens then?
Months ago, Trump endorsed U. S. Representative Byron Donalds for Governor.
Can you see a scenario where Representative Donalds resigns from Congress to become Florida’s lieutenant governor and simultaneity President Trump nominates Gov. DeSantis as Secretary of Defense?
