How its playing in Florida
Congressman Byron Donalds (R.FL) found out last night what it’s like to have President Trump’s endorsement of his candidacy for Florida Governor. Against the advice of national Republican leaders Donalds held a town hall in his congressional district. The mention of Trump’s name at the Town Hall erupted with loud boos. Trump stirred up national issues that translate into state & local concerns.
An astute 2026 gubernatorial campaign will connect Trump’s issues to Rep. Donalds who carries Trump’s water in Washington. Thousands of Florida seniors are scared about their social security, the falling stock market, lack of respect of “rule of law” and the chaos and destruction Trump’s crew creates daily. It’s not hard to determine how that could impact Donalds’ primary to be held in 18 months. No doubt he will have a Republican primary.
To burden Floridians further, Governor Ron DeSantis wandering in the wilderness since his collapsed presidential effort, is looking for a way to stay relevant. Can you imagine the only person who will answer his call…is his wife? Guess putting Casey in the big office would keep him relevant. They rushed to Washington to lock up Trump’s endorsement, but before they could get to Trump, he endorsed Byron Donalds.
After the reaction Congressman Donalds got at his town hall regarding President Trump…the DeSantis family may have lucked out. However, Governor DeSantis is finding out his friends in the Florida House GOP leadership have their knives out for him. It appears they are tired of him calling all the shots. How this all comes together is still a question.
With voters becoming more unhappy that Trump has not delivered on his promises…Congressman Donalds may find Trump a liability and DeSantis may find the House Republicans a liability.
