Those who believe in democracy have a core set of beliefs that are vital in today’s environment. Those beliefs include free and fair elections, freedom of speech, press and the right to assemble. A willingness to hold our institutions accountable; and our judiciary independent and a marketplace free from corruption.
Are we comfortable with those currently in charge of the federal government meeting those democratic standards? If not, then pro-democracy forces must organize NOW to protect us. There are national organizations doing appraisals to guide the battle. Coalitions are being formed to fight the destruction and chaos being orchestrated by those in charge of the federal government.
The success of the battle includes grassroots citizens. Local citizens are organizing impromptu protests and are pushing for Town Hall meetings with their Member of Congress. They are showing no resistance in speaking with local media…(that is impressive). This enthusiasm and concern must be captured and built upon.
It’s incumbent on local community, government & political leaders to pull together coalitions to battle the anti-democracy forces. Coalitions bring together different viewpoints. Healthy discussions are important. A local strategy with tactics guides the grassroots effort. This is getting the attention of their Congressman and Senators.
Who would have thought on January 20 it would be necessary to engage Americans on the national, state and local level to save our democracy…which could be the last if they wait for 2026.
There is no need to worry about politics if we lose our democracy.
