Florida Republicans are about to experience Iowa without cold & snow. A flurry of activity this week predicts 2026 GOP gubernatorial race will be a runoff between President Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis.
Bet political junkies cannot wait to see if Florida has a Queen…since Trump crowned himself a King. Governor DeSantis has been positioning his Queen Casey to succeed him. New Florida resident King Trump and his able Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will have none of that.
To kick off the 2026 GOP gubernatorial primary King Donald, upon seeing the seriousness of Casey DeSantis potential candidacy, immediately endorsed a member of his kingdom…Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla. That certainly sets up two slates of candidates for the August, 2026 primary.
DeSantis has his ticket started with newly appointed former Chief of Staff, James Uthmeier. Plus, he needs to find a new Lt. Governor to replace Jeanette Nunez who just resigned. When Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis goes to Washington Gov. DeSantis will need to name a new CFO…who may become a candidate.
Trump’s ticket will have state Senator Joe Gruters who has announced for Chief Financial Officer. King Trump will need strong Lt. Governor and Attorney General candidates.
Still unaccounted for is the Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson. Maybe they will auction him off to the highest bidder.
A primary like this will tear the Florida Republican Party to shreds.
All but forgotten in the news coverage is well known Florida Attorney John Morgan. Last December he told POLITICO how he would run for Governor, by rolling out a new party called “Capitalist Party.” This may make sense to a lot of Floridians as they are tired of the two parties…both of which ignore the “No Party Affiliated” voters.
You may not be in Iowa…but boots may be needed when the mud begins to fly.
