Trump’s War

Mar 2, 2026

This is Trump’s War.

Unlike other recent Presidents Trump did not prepare the country for what was to come.  There was no oval office address, on or off the record interviews with the White House press corps or urgently called meetings with his National Security team.  He didn’t take advantage of the recent State of Union address to even hint Iran was a burning concern.

Trump completely ignored the Constitution…as he always does.  Article I Section 8 in the Constitution makes clear…only Congress can declare War.

President George W. H. Bush prepared the United States for the Gulf War (1990-1991) through a combination of military buildup, international diplomacy, congressional approval and public communications.  For example, he built a coalition of 34 nations, including NATO allies and Arab states like Saudi Arabia and Egypt.  This helped present the conflict as a global effort…not just a U.S. war.

After the September 11, 2001 attacks President George W. Bush prepared the country for the Iraq War through a combination of public messages, congressional action, international diplomacy and military planning.

Think about this for a minute…President Trump established the Board of Peace signing its charter on January 22, 2026.  On February 19th the inaugural meeting was convened by Trump in Washington, D. C.  And then nine days later on February 28, 2026 the US and Israeli strikes on Iran began.

Maybe this week congressional Republicans and Democrats will take back the constitutional power our Founders gave to them.

BTW, this may be a perfect time for Congress to remind Mr. Trump who wants to “nationalize” elections…that under our Constitution, states and Congress set the rules that govern elections.  Under our laws, state and local officials are in charge of elections.
