Danger

This is the scariest time of the year…but not nearly as frightening as a powerful President Trump…that takes away our freedom of speech, puts troops on our streets, places federal observers at voting precincts and lets his unqualified followers run our federal government.

When starting to write this piece it was to convey the danger of losing the most powerful branch of government – the United States Congress.  On second thought…we already have.

The Constitution gave vast powers to Congress…the current Republican controlled body…has handed over their power to President Donald J. Trump.  This is astounding…and should scare you!

If you closely read the Constitution, you will see the Congress was to be the strongest branch of government…the executive branch was to carry out or manage the affairs of government. Let’s look at the powers.

  • To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises.
  • To borrow money.
  • To regulate commerce with foreign Nations and among the several States.
  • To declare war.
  • To raise and support Armies.
  • To constitute Tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court.
  • To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the forgoing Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States or in any Department or Officer thereof.

Since Trump returned to office, he just took over all these powers without even a whimper from Capitol Hill.  The America people showed their anger with two massive “No Kings” protests.

Further evidence of the Trump discontent is found in the latest Economist/YouGov survey.  The poll conducted this past weekend, shows Trump 19 points underwater, only 39 percent of Americans approved his handling of the presidency and 58 percent disapproved.  Now is the time to prepare and make the goal of 2026 election to recapture Congress and its powers.

There is plenty of ammunition…House Speaker Mike Johnson takes his orders from “King Trump” and weakened the House…by putting it on vacation….45 days at last count.  While the House vacationed Americans are going to lose their healthcare and go without food.  That’s just for a start.

Its time Citizens must show up at their Republican Representatives’ office and demand an accounting of their vacation time…and why they are not standing up to President Trump.  Why not ask them to contribute their pay for those 45 days to a local food bank?

Many incumbent members of Congress have served over the years…but they have not earned re-election by playing dead while Trump destroys their constituents.

There is work to be done and the time to start is now.
