Hang In There
Democracy dominated the rhetoric throughout the 2024 presidential election. However today Democracy is hardly mentioned by President Donald J. Trump. He is making authoritarian moves that destroy our Constitution, freedom of speech & press and he shows no remorse or respect for the institutions he is tearing down. Americans must take action to protect our democracy.
Trump coveted the Nobel Peace Prize. If he is as smart as he thinks…peace does not mean winning wars, peace mean improving people’s lives and assuring our system of government remains strong.
The Nobel Peace Prize was given to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. She received this prestigious award for her struggle to achieve a democratic transition in her native country. It was said she “keeps the flame of democracy burning amid a growing darkness.”
The chair of the Norwegian Nobel committee, Watne Frydnes said, “Despite serious threats against her life, she has remained in the country, a choice that has inspired millions.
Here is a message for President Trump…it’s not too late to change your authoritarian ways. Chairman Frydnes added, “when authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize the courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist.” Remember our Constitution is built on “we the people”.
“We the people” must organize and fight to preserve our rights & democracy…like Maria Corina Machado.
The actions of President Trump and those around him centralizing and growing power, must be stopped. They are withholding funds or closing vital government agencies, stripping funds from universities, firing federal employees and destroying the civil service system.
Our democracy is worth saving! We must bring together committed people to will save our democracy otherwise the future is bleak.
Current Members of Congress have given up their power of the purse to President Trump…and making it too easy for his authoritarian moves.
Members of Congress who will stand up for constitutional rights must be elected in the 2026 off-year election. And those who won’t need to lose.
Everyone should now resolve not to let another day pass without taking action to save our democracy. No action is too little to rein in the unhinged Trump administration.
Is the Trump administration unhinged or busy paving the road to a dictatorship or a crown?
