Unfinished Business

Congress is entering a difficult period.  When they return on Monday they face a potential government shutdown, the Epstein files and confirmation of Trump nominees.  Emotions are raw from last week’s events with personal & institutional security top of mind.

Democrats are considering the political impact of a potential government shutdown.  Republicans are struggling to avoid being taken down in the 2026 election for supporting Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”.

During the summer constituents made it clear they are more than upset & concerned about the consequences of their Representatives’ vote for the “Big Beautiful Bill”.  Representatives’ may be looking for a way to “get right” with the folks at home. Thinking they could use the appropriations process to fix some of their ugly wrong votes.  However, the appropriations legislation must be passed by September 30th.

Polling shows Americans are not happy about how Trump is handling inflation, the impact of tariffs on their budget, seeing mask “agents” grabbing people on the street, armed troops in cities and Trump’s heavy-handed approach to governing.

Another troubling matter is how the administration has stolen Congress’ power of the purse.  Congress deserves blame for allowing this to happen.  Our government was formed around the idea of three branches.  From a constitutional perspective, Congress is to lead the government.

For too many years Congress allowed the President to lead the government. This did not start with Trump, but it has gotten out hand.  With Trump’s authoritative mind set…Congress must take the “bull by the horns” and assert its power.

Also, not to be overlooked is the Supreme Court usurping power.

The time has come for the American citizens to take a larger role…by holding their Members of Congress accountable for not following the Constitution.
