DeSantis Owes Democrats

Aug 8, 2023

I’m surprised when Governor Ron DeSantis continues to brag about his 2022 “red wave” victory he did not call it a tsunami. This guy came in from the dark with a single Tweet by President Trump getting him the Republican nomination in 2018. Narrowly defeated Democratic Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum by a margin of 0.4%. Gillum was under Federal investigation at the time. Here is how DeSantis got his “red wave.”

In the 2022 race to succeed DeSantis former Governor Charlie Crist entered. It was obvious DeSantis, the young Republican, was preparing to seek the presidency. With the writing on the wall Democratic leadership should have been preparing to take DeSantis out – before it was too late.

Through Crist entered the race with same baggage, the Democrats had the best person to person candidate at the ready to work DeSantis over. If you observed that campaign, you had to wonder when the cavalry was coming to help.

The troops never arrived. There was no sighting of the Democratic Governors Association providing funds, staff, surrogates nor a victory strategy: The Democratic National Committee must have been disinterested and the “fat cat” billionaires never made the trip. Then President Biden arrived in Florida after hurricane Ian taking Gov. Ron DeSantis in tow praising his response as “pretty remarkable.” Only 49% of registered Democrat’s voted in the 2022 Florida governor’s race.

Though DeSantis still has a way to travel in his quest to become GOP presidential nominee he appears better positioned than the field to put President Biden on the Amtrak train back to Delaware.

Now you know why DeSantis owes the Democrats.
