Almost Forgotten

Jul 11, 2025

Almost forgotten with all the attention on Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” is an Executive Order related to American Elections signed in March.  It’s apparent upon reading that order he plans to make federal policy based on his views about electoral integrity.

Why write about this now?  With both Houses of Congress nearly evenly split between the two parties, the 2026 election has become more important than normal.  With the public in opposition to the just passed “Big Beautiful Bill” the outcome of the 2026 election may present an opportunity to enact some changes before they take effect.

Of course, the Trump crowd has senior Department of Justice Department lawyers looking for ways state and local officials could fail to follow security standards for electronic voting & other matters that might lead to charges of a crime.

The U. S. Constitution establishes a shared responsibility between federal and state governments in conducting elections.  States primarily administer elections.  This means state laws and regulations largely govern aspects like voter registration, voting procedures and ballot counting.

However, since creating fear is standard operating procedure for Trump.  Thus, anyone who has voted in person knows the election officials in their precinct is made up of their neighbors…they know the grandmother who is always there!

Our democracy is under attack and critics of Trump’s March executive order say it could disenfranchise millions of would-be-voters and exceed presidential authority.

Like, many of Trump’s orders end up in court.  Judge Kollar-Kotelly’s order put the executive order on hold.  “Our Constitution entrusts Congress and the States – not the President – with the authority to regulate federal elections.”
