They’re Off!

Traditionally Labor Day is the start of political campaigns.  Not this year.  Candidates have been hard at work on every level.  The primary focus of the media and hopefully the voters…have been the presidential campaign.  This is a historical election for a couple of reasons.

First, the presidential election is close…and likely to remain so.  Therefore, it is important for voters to consider this when they vote.  Because if no presidential candidate has 270 electoral votes the U. S. House of Representatives in accordance to Article II, Section 2 of Constitution will decide.  That’s why it’s important who represents you in the House side of Congress.  Each state will have one vote. A majority is necessary to determine the President.

Secondly, after the 2020 election controversy several states revised how elections are to be conducted.  This has caused a lot of confusion.  For example, in Florida a law passed in 2021 cancelled all standing requests for vote-by-mail ballots after the 2022 elections.  Now voters are required to request mail ballots every election cycle.  Adding to the confusion is election supervisors can remove voters inactive for two federal elections.  BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR STATE.

Finally, here is why it’s serious who voters elect to the U. S. House of Representatives.  Let’s say a state’s House delegation has 12 members…six being Democrats and six Republicans.

They must agree among themselves which candidate for President will get their states one vote. The bottom line…in case the presidential election goes to the House of Representatives a voter should realize who they send to the House is casting their vote for president.

The next President may be chosen because of your vote.
