As Americans prepare to hear President Trump’s State of the Union speech tomorrow evening they face the attack on our loss of free speech, the loss of free press and the right for the people to peaceably assemble as declared in the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Trump has always called anything he did not agree with “fake news.” He now believes his current position gives him the right to define fake news. Recently he has denied the well-respected Associated Press and other outlets admission to Oval Office “news conferences”…but allowed a representative of the Russian press in the Oval Office to witness the ambush of Ukraine President Zelensky. Also, Trump took control of the White House Correspondences’ Association role in deciding who travels with him on Air Force One.
Censorship is taking center stage in the Trump/Musk administration. Federal websites are being cleansed, dissenting journalists are being excluded which copy the restrictions found in authoritarian systems of government.
Our power to communicate rests in the hands of anyone with a computer. The decentralization of information makes it more difficult for Trump/Musk to control and censor what’s being written. It’s never been more necessary to speak up.
Hopefully, those who are concerned about our democracy will weed out the “Trump/Musk” propaganda and share social media, news clips and blogs that speak the real truth.
Our nation’s founders would be horrified to learn the protections they provided to criticize the government, express opinions, petition the Government for a redress of grievances, freedom of the press & speech is under attack.
BTW, there was quite a fuss over President Zelensky being in the Oval Office on Friday without a suit. Where the fuss about Elon Musk being in the Oval Office for an earlier news conference in a T-shirt, peacoat & hat. Same goes when he took over Trump’s first cabinet meeting in the same outfit.
