Gool Ole Days

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Anyone who follows the happenings in Washington sees a place where it seems no one can get along, find solutions or enjoy themselves after hours.  That was not always the case when Ronald Reagan was President, Tip O’Neill served as House Speaker and Howard Baker lead Republicans in the Senate.

Back in my days in Washington we all worked together.  A longtime friend who happens to be a Democrat sent me a video that portrays what it was like back then.  It sets an example which should be followed today.

Trust me you will enjoy this video and as my friend said “this is laugh out loud fun.”  Click here you will not regret it even if like what goes on in the nation’s capital today.

Democrats Are Losing Independents Support

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Congress returns from a summer recess on Tuesday.  President Obama will address a joint session of Congress mid-week.  He must believe another speech or a more “prescriptive” health care plan will put his Democrats colleagues at ease.  Well, he may be too late.

Democrats should be terrified by the loss of support from Independents according to a politics column written by Charlie Cook for The National Journal.  The blame is squarely placed on President Obama.

It is not too late for Republicans to give careful thought to the impact Independents can have on their success in 2010 & 2012.

History Lesson on Political Comebacks

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

One of my objectives as a blogger is to put forward “think pieces”.  One caught my attention in The New York Times “Week in Review”.   It provides a history of how both national political parties have come back from bad situations.

Those interested in the future of political parties will enjoy the history lesson.  Republicans may benefit from the rebuilding message and Democrats should stop and think nothing is permanent.
