Observations

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010
  • Governor Manchin must & will watch his votes carefully as Senator-elect.  The 2012 Senate election started last night.   The forthcoming lame duck session presents some problems.

  • We will see more Tea Party members taking an active role in Republican affairs – they will be welcomed.

  • Congressman-elect David McKinley executed an impressive campaign in the first congressional district.  Campaigns do matter and well run one even more.

  • Incoming WV Governor Earl Ray Tomblin will be a steady hand on the wheels of government.  His experience and conservative views will be liked.

  • Citizens should remember Republicans don’t take over the U. S. House of Representatives until January, 2011.

  • How could the Manchin/Raese polls been so wrong?

  • State Republican leaders need to start candidate recruitment now.  A true two party system cannot be built until Republicans offer candidates at the courthouse level.

  • Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito will now be positioned in the Congress to lead on West Virginia issues.  She can be counted on.

  • Wonder if soon to be Minority Leader Pelosi will push policies in the lame duck session that will do in Democrat members in 2012 who survived last night.

  • Rep. Alan Mollohan was in the “morning after” news talking about compromise in Congress.  Maybe he plans a comeback.

  • Judge John Yoder never gives up.  He turned in an impressive 51 to 49 percent race for the Supreme Court.  He needs to continue campaigning as two seats are open in 2012.

  • Responsibility has not shifted to Republicans it still rests with President Obama.

  • Politicians who advocate for spending more tax money on a Governor’s succession election in 2011 do so at their peril.  Voters are feed up seeing their money spent on “special elections.”

  • The Fire Pelosi strategy worked in capturing the U. S. House.  If Michael Steele thinks his little “Fire Pelosi” bus trip gets him a second term as RNC chairman he had better think again.

  • Obama had better be serious about “change” if he plans to run again in 2012.

  • Great news that the GOP gained six House of Delegates members.  More candidates are the way to grow the numbers even more.

  • Don’t look for outside organizations like American Crossroads to go away.

  • Congressional House Republicans have been given a second chance and let’s hope a lesson was learned in 2006 & 2008.

  • The real fight in the 2011 session of the WV Legislature will be drawing the lines for new legislative and congressional boundaries.

  • Washington and Congress is a complicated place.

Obama Should Listen to Mitt Romney

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

An unexpected Op Ed authored by Governor Romney appeared in The Washington Post this morning.  No doubt everyone needs a break from politics.  However, the counsel being offered by Mitt Romney should be heeded by President Obama, current Members of Congress and those who will be entering in January.

This is a must read.

Election Day…Tidbits

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE…..here is a pick up from POLITICO yesterday…..just had to pass this along…..Boehner is going to make a great Speaker…..this could set the tone which starts tomorrow…..

House Republican Leader John Boehner plans to hammer President Obama tonight during an election-eve rally in Cincinnati, pivoting off an Obama comment to Univision radio that got huge play in the right blogosphere. The president said: “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’ — if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election — then I think it’s going to be harder. And that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd.”

From Boehner’s prepared remarks: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a president in the White House who referred to Americans who disagree with him as ‘our enemies.’ Think about that. He actually used that word. When Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush used the word ‘enemy,’ they reserved it for global terrorists and foreign dictators — enemies of the United States. Enemies of freedom. Enemies of our country. Today, sadly, we have president who uses the word ‘enemy’ for fellow Americans — fellow citizens. He uses it for people who disagree with his agenda of bigger government — people speaking out for a smaller, more accountable government that respects freedom and allows small businesses to create jobs. Mr. President, there’s a word for people who have the audacity to speak up in defense of freedom, the Constitution, and the values of limited government that made our country great. We don’t call them ‘enemies.’ We call them ‘patriots.'”

Obama going away…..running from the election returns…..he is packing for a 10 day trip to Asia…..he had better be thinking about cleaning up his mess…..if he uses the time away to plan for the next two years…..not much will change…..as his likely companions on the flight…..will be those who helped him create an “Administration of Failure.”

Welcome Back Mr. President…..the election is nearly over and the Obama Administration is over…..Bush 43 will release his book “Decision Points” on November 9th…..a groundbreaking for the Bush Presidential Library is set for November 16th…..incorporated into the building will be The George W. Bush Presidential Center…..check out the web site.

Don’t look for WV voters to want another election before 2012…..even if Manchin vacates the Governor’s office…..it is too costly…..plus they don’t ever want to see/hear another political ad until late 2012.

Kudos to Mike Stuart…..he has been a great cheerleader for state Republicans…..with short notice…..bet this experience leads to a statewide campaign for Chairman Mike…..likewise Jim Dornan moved quickly upon arrival in WV to control Raese.

A friend called to say he was stopped at a local Wal-Mart wearing his Mike Teets for Ag Commissioner tee shirt…..the passerby said get him to run again…..maybe even Governor.

Another sign of the times…..Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is helping establish the American Action Network and the American Action Forum a Hispanic Leadership Network…..Karl Rove always told us…..to win we need Hispanic voters.

Stay tuned 2012 starts tomorrow…..
